August 1996. The abstract reaches the following conclusion: “St. John’s Wort extracts were significantly superior to placebo … and similarly effective as standard antidepressants”.

Deprex should be taken continuously for up to eight weeks before clinical improvement in mood may be noted. Pregnant women should NOT take Deprex since St John’s may cause uterine contractions, which could lead to premature labour.

All antidepressants are contraindicated during pregnancy due to its possible effects on the development of the foetal brain and nervous tissue. For this reason, the herb is also not recommended during breastfeeding.

Directions and Dosage:
Take 1 to 2 capsules in the morning. Do not take intermittently for less than 4 weeks at a time. Optimal results may only be experienced after 8 weeks of continued use. Seek medical help if the condition does not improve within 8 weeks. Do not exceed 6 capsules per day.
